Safe Sleep Guidelines: Reduce SIDS Risk
To reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), remember the ABCs of Safe Sleep:

A – Alone: Your baby should sleep without other people in their sleep space.
B – Back: Always place your baby on their back to sleep.
C – Crib: Use a crib, bassinet, or play yard with a firm mattress and fitted sheet.
Avoid loose items like pillows, blankets, or bumpers in the sleep area. For warmth, use a wearable blanket or wool pajamas, and ensure the room is not too hot. Stop swaddling once your baby begins rolling over, and avoid weighted sleep products.
Babies should not sleep in seats like swings or car seats when outside the car. If room-sharing, keep the baby in a separate sleep space rather than bed-sharing. If you do choose to bed-share, follow safe bed-sharing practices and avoid it entirely if under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or certain medications.
Breastfeeding and pacifier use have been shown to lower the risk of SIDS, while smoking increases it. Be mindful of avoiding exposure to secondhand smoke.
