Tackling Infant Sleep Problems
& Night Wakings
For middle-of-the-night feedings, you might try a dream feed—feeding your baby while they are still drowsy—to prevent a longer wake period. This can be particularly helpful if your baby consistently wakes at the same time every night.

Newborns often sleep 17–20 hours a day and are usually awake for only 30–45 minutes at a time. Begin your sleep routine before the wake window ends to ensure they are asleep at the right time. As babies grow, naps will evolve from multiple short naps to fewer, longer ones, and eventually, just one nap per day. Following your baby’s natural cues is the best strategy for managing these transitions.
